FRANKLIN TILL MATERIAL FUTURES

Material Futures for the Textile Futures Research Centre

2013

The inaugural publication in a series from the Textile Futures Research Centre (TFRC), Material Futures was edited and designed by FranklinTill to present a dynamic, inspirational perspective on the future of materials. Drawing on cutting-edge internal TFRC research combined with our own global research, we identified now, near and far-future trends, gathering and presenting key information and insight for everyone working in colour, materials and design innovation.

Highlights include Co-Creation Futures, which explores the implications of open-source technologies and social media networks, while Bio-Facture discusses the further-future implications of biological fabrication processes, unpacking how biology and biomimicry can inform a new approach to design. Craft Engagement documents the rise in collaborative craft practices that encourage social engagement, with an exploration of the resurgence of contemporary social, creative groups – a trend that is clearly manifesting as we predicted, and which we have documented as it continues to evolve.
